Bosnian President Proposes Coordinating Body With Serbia to Nab War Criminals2006-08-02BBC Monitoring EuropeanText of report in English by Croatian news agency HINA Sarajevo, 2 August: Bosnia-Hercegovina and Serbia might set up a coordinating body so as to improve cooperation in attempts to arrest remaining fugitive war crimes indictees, the chairman of Bosnia's collective presidency, Sulejman Tihic, has said. Tihic was on Wednesday [2 August] quoted by the Oslobodjenje daily as saying that he had discussed this topic with the US ambassador for war crimes issues, John Clint Williamson, whom he received in Sarajevo two days ago. Establishing such a coordinating body would foil attempts to shift responsibility from one side to other, which has so far been the practice, Tihic said but did not explain whether this initiative had been launched by Sarajevo, Belgrade or by US officials. Ambassador Williamson had told Tihic that he was expecting concrete results in attempts to nab war crimes indictees until his next arrival in Bosnia. This referred to war-time Bosnian Serb leaders, General Ratko Mladic and Radovan Karadzic, who have been in hiding for a decade and who are wanted by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) that has indicted them for genocide against Bosnian Muslims.
